# Grenache Blanc

## Proxy Wines, Chalone, CA

17 reviews

An intensely aromatic, dry white wine from a rising star female producer. Imagine the crispness of a Sauv Blanc and the weight of a Chardonnay, but way more interesting. Juicy notes of white peach, guava, and a teensy touch of spice that'll make your tastebuds tingle.

### Meet the wine

You might be familiar with its red cousin, Grenache, but don't overlook this lesser-known white. It's originally from Spain but more common today in the Rhone region of France. Grenache Blanc is often made in a plush, oaked style, but winemaker Molly opted for 100% stainless steel aging to create a wine that's crisp, vibrant, and incredibly crushable.

Happiest in cooler climates, most Grenache Blanc in California is grown mid-coast. These grapes come from a coveted region near Monterey, 1,500 ft. in elevation, called Chalone. Its limestone soils and swings in daily temps result in a wine that's beautifully balanced with striking minerality. Try it paired with Moroccan dishes or grilled peaches with vanilla ice cream. Make room in your fridge now - thank us later.

### Meet the maker

Molly Lippitt is a biology geek who went full-time wine nerd. She's made a name for herself crafting bold wines under legendary mentors, like Heidi Barrett and Philippe Melka. After 15+ years in the biz and two kids, she felt a desire to create and nurture something more. Her brand Proxy Wines became her third baby, "by proxy”.

Still a consulting winemaker crafting big bold reds by day, she jokes, "Cabernet tastes like work." Proxy is where she gets to make what she calls her "day off" varietals: crisp, light wines using traditional French grapes. Her production is teeny tiny - less than 170 cases were produced for her label in 2021.

The label design is a nod to her winery’s “X” logo. The two sides of the can reflect each other, symbolizing the duality of Molly’s life as a winemaker and mother.
